I am trying to prove my suspicion that the Daviess County Clerk entered incorrect names into Daviess Co. Marriage Book A, pg. 136. The entry for a marriage on 29 Apr. 1852 was for a "Nathan CASE" and a "Manah WALKER." I believe the names should have been Nathan COX and Mariah WALKER. Daniel H. BOOT, Minister of the Gospel, performed the ceremony. Mariah WALKER's maiden name was MAUPIN. She earlier had married James GOODMAN (18 Sep. 1810 in Madison Co., KY), then Elias M. WALKER (2 Nov. 1843 in Daviess Co., MO). Subsequent deeds and probate records reveal that Nathan COX's second wife (after the death of his first wife, Lucy [PERKINS] COX on 22 Aug. 1851) was named "Mariah COX." Does anyone know if copies of the marriage records of Daniel H. BOOT still exist? If so, those records should resolve my suspicion.

Was surfing your local surname list didn't find my grandparents listed. They lived in the Jamesport area forever (1900's anyway). Both of their parents surnames were THOMAS also-believe they were from the Gilman City area. All are buried in the Old Scotland Cemetary. Just a little update for your page it would also do my heart good to see them reckonized as Daviess Countians once again.

Seeking any information on the family and descendants of Sterling MORGAN and Margaret (McDaniels) MORGAN who left Chariton County, MO sometime between 1825 and the 1850 census and moved to Daviess County (Dist. #27), MO, where they farmed until perhaps 1859 before moving on to Miami County, KS. Some of the older children may have stayed behind in Daviess County, MO. These would have been Riley MORGAN (born 1829), Susan MORGAN (b. 1831), Francis MORGAN [M] (b. 1833), and William MORGAN (b. 1835). The 1850 Daviess County census lists Riley and Francis as "farmers" living with their parents. Susan may have married in Daviess County during the 1850's.
