Joseph Daveiss

Major Joseph Hamilton Daveiss (1774 - 1811), statesman and soldier, for whom Daviess County, Missouri is named. He served with William Henry Harrison in the battle of Tippecanoe in 1811. Most historians agree that the correct spelling of the surname is Daveiss but it is spelled Daviess in places named for him.
