John Lewis was born about 1837 in Kentucky, son of Samuel Lewis and Lidia Eliza Baker.
He came to north Missouri in the 1850s. He had two brothers, William of Hamilton and Andrew of St. Joseph.
His sister Eliza Ann Lewis married James M. Parker. John's wife was Mary Margaret Whiskerson, born about 1846. Her family came to north Missouri from Rheinburg, Germany about 1840. This photo was probably taken on their 40th wedding anniversary.
